Hello, my name is Michael Buck, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of California. I hold a Master's in Social Work from California State University, Sacramento. While my experience spans multiple modalities in behavioral health across all age groups, my passion lies in Substance Use Services and Recovery. I utilize a Cognitive Behavioral perspective to support individuals on their journeys and bring over 25 years of experience in this field. My approach I approach therapy from a Generalist Practitioner's perspective, trained in many therapeutic methods, and I honor each individual's right to establish and define their personal goals. I have found that the Rogerian, Cognitive Behavioral, and Motivational Interviewing (MI) perspectives are compatible and effective in delivering Substance Use Services. My focus As mentioned, my passion is supporting individuals who want to change their relationship with substance use conditions. However, my experience also includes working with other behavioral health concerns such as anxiety, stress, mood disorders, emotional regulation, and obsessive/compulsive issues across the lifespan-from children and adolescents to adults and older adults. My communication style My communication style varies depending on the individual and is delivered without judgment, supported by active listening. I have been told my style is calm and comfortable. My journey to therapy My personal life experiences influenced my decision to become a therapist. The challenges in accessing services, breaking down social stigmas, and finding the courage and motivation to improve one's quality of life all contributed to this choice. I know firsthand that people have the capacity to change their lives when provided the support and assistance they need.
