Getting to know Michael Steighner

My name is Michael Steighner and I am a Licensed Social Worker that was born and raised in Colorado. I have always sought to meet my clients where they are and employ evidenced based practices to ensure quality of care. The human mind and the human heart are complex and I recognize that everyone's experience is different and equally valuable. I work primarily in modalities of talk therapy, play therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques in an effort to provide holistic and client centered treatment. My work with clients that are minors will include collaborative efforts with the child's parents and siblings in an effort to provide all encompassing care.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I encourage clients to understand that I will work from a place of empathy, and never judgment. My goal as a clinician is to be a person that you can be vulnerable with while identifying new strengths within yourself. I aim to challenge misconceptions or incongruencies in thought patterns and behaviors and always aim to do this gently, but with purpose.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My typical sessions are about 55 minutes long and consist of a variety of modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, talk therapy, and play therapy when appropriate. Sessions can be held weekly or every 2 weeks and can be held virtually, although I prefer in person whenever possible, especially when working with minors.
