Michael Villaescusa, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Michael! I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California for 14 years. Over my career, I have assisted clients from children to older adults. My clinical concentrations are trauma, depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and life transitions. I strive to create a non-judgmental, supportive space for clients to feel safe exploring and expressing their difficulties. From here, I help clarify their needs, what has been helpful, what additional skills and supports are needed, and how to best approach change. My approach Therapy always starts with establishing a trusting, respectful relationship. Without trust, meaningful sharing and progress stall. My clinical orientation is heavily influenced by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and I also use techniques from Humanistic, Family Systems, Object Relations, Rogerian, Prolonged Exposure, and Existential therapy to engage clients and find the most useful approach for healing and growth. My focus I currently work individually with adults impacted by trauma, depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and difficulty adjusting to life phases. My communication style I aim for therapy sessions to be times when you can express yourself, share thoughts, feelings, hopes, and fears while feeling safe, supported, and not judged. I present as calm, supportive, grounded, and able to assist clients with their struggles and challenges. My journey to mental healthcare I graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a Master?s Degree in Social Work emphasizing Mental Health. I was drawn to this field because I enjoy helping others move forward from past hurt and overcome challenges.
