Getting to know Michelle King

Hi there, I'm Michelle L.! I am Michelle King, a clinical social worker licensed in both Georgia and Vermont. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Georgia, Athens. I work from a positive psychotherapy framework, believing therapy is an active pursuit of change. Together, we will work during sessions so you leave with understanding, a clear mind, and a plan. My approach As a positive psychotherapist, I approach treatment with kindness, compassion, and no judgment. My strength lies in bringing forth your strengths by utilizing Solution Focused psychotherapy, cognitive behavior therapy, compassion, and emotionally focused therapy. My goal is for you to trust and speak freely while processing and creating a plan. Above all, my desire is to help. My focus I thrive working with survivors. I love collaborating toward a whole and fulfilling life by learning from the past, understanding the ins and outs of the human brain, and implementing new skills. Survivors I work with may experience shame, guilt, persistent sadness, depression, anxiety, feelings of not being enough, or questions like “Who am I?” My communication style I am kind and compassionate, and I bring this into every session. I enjoy a good laugh and am not stuffy. I prefer conversation-style sessions that feel natural and open. My journey to therapy My path includes personal childhood trauma and a lifelong commitment to personal growth. I entered school for the first time at age 40. My motto: Choosing to make a difference. My goals for you To know what you want, learn what you want, communicate effectively, be kind and compassionate toward yourself, and experience understanding and elevated moods. My first session with you During our first session, I’d love to hear all you want me to know about you at that time. The first session is no different from others, except we are just getting to know each other.
