Getting to know Michelle Magee-Lopez
Hi there, I'm Michelle!
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a background in Theatre Arts. I believe psychotherapy is a very important component of an individual’s overall well-being. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I continue to strive to become the embodiment of reliability, dedication, and an understanding of the importance of creating a non-threatening, safe environment for clients. In 2005 I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater Arts from California State University Long Beach. In 2016 I received my Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University Dominquez Hills. I have experience working with adolescents, adults, and children in a variety of settings. I often merge theatrical and theoretical techniques as a means of positively impacting the client’s overall therapeutic experience. I strive to create an environment that allows clients to grow emotionally and expand their overall understanding of themselves.
My approach
My approach to psychotherapy varies and is dependent on "where the client is" as well as what the situation calls for. Although I prefer Family systems, Existential and Person-centered approaches toward therapy, I am flexible with respect to my approaches.
My focus
I prefer to work with populations 18 years and older, specifically dealing with anxiety/depressive symptoms.
My communication style
I have a relaxed communication style when engaging with clients, and I would describe it as " conversational" in nature.
My journey to therapy
I felt there was a need to serve individuals within our society, specifically addressing the current mental health crisis. I received training at CSUDH as an MFT graduate student. I served in environments that housed at-risk minors and court-ordered populations, as well as in various elementary schools.
My goals for you
Progress looks like a decrease in symptom(s) and an emergence of the client's improved self.
