Michelle Torres, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in the High Desert, CA, with a Master's in Counseling Psychology from California Baptist University. I work with teens and adults struggling with difficult life transitions, relationship distress, self-esteem issues, and anxiety. Using a combination of person-centered therapy, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy, we'll work together to define your values, set goals, and make sense of your story. My approach I would describe myself as a "soft place to land." Experiencing emotional difficulties and mental health challenges can be disorienting. My approach is empathetic and nonjudgmental. I am on your side and a partner in care as you heal and strive toward your goals. My focus I have a particular soft spot for the first-gen/children of the immigrant crowd seeking to break the vicious cycle of generational trauma. However, I love working with anyone who's ready to roll up their sleeves and dig in! My communication style I'd describe my tone as affirming, gentle, and direct. I will always ask for your permission or read the vibe if I am going to ask a difficult question because consent is important. My journey to mental healthcare I am an INFJ, need I say more??? On a more serious note, I love seeing how people blossom when they tap into their agency and resilience. I started out working in community advocacy and policy change, and there was a natural progression to my current work as a therapist. My goals for you This is about you, dear reader. People come in and out of therapy, so far be it from me to impose any goals on you. We'll work primarily to define your values and what's important to you, then set reasonable, collaborative treatment goals and evaluate or modify them as necessary.
