Getting to know Miranda Duncan

I am a mother of four and have been in private practice for about five years. Before that, I worked in clinical settings, criminal and family courts, and shelters. My approach Most of my experience has been with at-risk youth and victims of domestic violence, so I primarily utilize a trauma-informed approach with clients. However, I don’t subscribe to any single theoretical approach; I employ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Psychodynamic techniques while allowing you to share your experiences. I will also teach you skills to help contain any reactions or symptoms that arise during processing. My focus I am passionate about empowering men and women to live happy, healthy, and productive lives. My communication style As your therapist, I can help you learn about the relationship between your thoughts, moods, physical symptoms, and behaviors. Along the way, we can collaborate to develop skills to manage stress and any difficult emotions you may be experiencing. My journey to therapy I have a Master’s in Social Work from New York University’s Silver School of Social Work. I am a California Board of Behavioral Sciences Licensed Clinical Social Worker (#83501) and hold a Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) certification from the International Association of Trauma Professionals (IATP). My goals for you I understand how past experiences and developed patterns can often get in the way of you being your best self. I want to be your ally in implementing healthy coping, communication, and relationship skills into your daily life. My first session with you I believe the most important first step in therapy is building trust and rapport. I will ask you many background questions during our first session and will give you time to ask any questions you may have for me as well.
