MD
Hi there, I'm Mishawna! My name is Mishawna Washington, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor based in Maryland, working with clients statewide via telehealth. I hold a Master’s in Counseling from Grand Canyon University. I work with all ages, including adolescents over the age of 8, young adults up to age 21, and adults over 21. I specialize in anxiety, depression, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, crisis services, and conduct disorders to help my clients progress. My approach I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Play Therapy, Art Therapy, and Exposure Therapy to better understand my clients' needs and how best to serve them. I like to build a shared understanding with my clients and work together to create a path forward. My focus My style and approach are a good fit for adolescents, teens, young adults, and older adults. I work with my clients to bridge the gap and provide them with tools to live a healthier, more positive outlook on life. My communication style My tone is calm, accommodating, and personable. I like to allow my clients the space to speak and guide the direction of the therapy session. I prefer to build trust with each client until they feel comfortable opening up. I achieve this by using motivational interviewing techniques. My journey to mental healthcare I've always wanted to help people, and I believe becoming a therapist is the best way for me to do that. I want to help my clients overcome their mental health challenges and reach their full potential. I want to help them become the best versions of themselves. Each individual is different, and I prefer to choose the best approach before moving forward. My goals for you I believe it is important for clients to take an active role in therapy. To that end, I typically allow clients to have input on the goals they wish to work on. I usually schedule a goal-setting session during the second appointment.
