Mollie Sherry, LICSW

Psychotherapist
MA
Hi there, I'm Mollie! Welcome, and I applaud you for taking this big step to look for a therapist. I am a licensed MSW, and I also have a PhD. I have been in the field of mental health for over 30 years. I have worked with children and families as well as elders, and all ages in between. I have experience with anxiety, depression, parenting, adoptions, postpartum issues, PTSD, relationship issues, ASD, and eating disorders (as well as many other issues). I use a combination of talk therapy, looking at the role of the past on your current functioning, DBT, CBT, and positive psychology, as well as other methods. Having a good relationship with your therapist is most important. I strive to create a warm, safe environment and we set goals together. My approach I work with each client to make sure 1) we are a good match and 2) we have mutually agreed upon goals. I use multiple approaches, including a psychodynamic model, practicing being in the here and now, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Internal Family Systems for some examples. My focus I have worked extensively with parents, children, young adults, and older adults. Anxiety and depression are very common issues, and often clients have early experiences of being poorly parented or having had small or large traumatic experiences. Clients may have difficulty with relationships, lack confidence at work, or may have body image issues. Parenting issues may include their child has attentional issues, impulsivity, or difficulty with connection and attachment. I enjoy working with all types of issues. My communication style I ask open-ended questions, listen well, and help clients unpack issues that may be longstanding. Together, we consider how these issues arose and how to decrease their impact on clients' lives. I usually make recommendations, based on our conversation, for the client to practice, and think about until our next session. It may be noticing a negative thought, or writing.
