Monica McFarland, LMFT

Monica McFarland, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Applying multiple therapeutic strategies, I provide a collaborative space to aid clients in creating their optimal life in the present. In many cases, I believe that one cannot move forward effectively if the past is not examined and understood. I also know that the choice to begin a therapeutic journey is one desirous of change, along with being a courageous and hopeful one. I honor your spiritual belief system and offer a faith-based approach to therapeutic treatment for those interested in faith as a part of their therapeutic journey. I received my undergraduate degree from UCLA and my Master’s in Counseling at Cal State University Northridge. My approach I am certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and this work can ultimately equip you with a feeling of control and command that perhaps may have been lost during prior traumatic events. I also utilize Humanistic, Narrative, Psychodynamic, Restoration, and EFT Therapies, along with DBT strategies, which incorporate Mindfulness and emotional regulation. My focus I work with individuals, young adults, and older adults. I have worked with clients who have experienced domestic violence, anxiety, depression, break-ups, divorce, co-parenting & shared custody, grief & loss, disordered eating, child abuse trauma, and pornography/sex addiction issues, among others issues. My communication style I create a welcoming, supportive, and safe environment fundamental to exploring your unique experiences. I bring compassion and empathy to my client-centered approach and believe that all people have the ability to achieve their goals for change given the right support. My journey to therapy Prior to working as a therapist, I worked as an instructor in conjunction with DCFS for several years focusing on young childhood and attachment wounds and how such wounds can later manifest as problematic behaviors in adulthood.
