I am a licensed mental health counselor with a Master?s in Counseling from Illinois State University. I use an eclectic approach to counseling, depending on the circumstances and your preferences. I believe we are fellow travelers, working together to find solutions and healthy coping skills that work for you. My approach I am integrative in sessions, using cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, person-centered, spiritual, and/or 12-step & recovery-based approaches. I like mindful methods that make you feel comfortable and supported while fostering change and healthier coping. Remember, we work together! My focus I am a certified grief counselor/educator and trained in addiction and alcoholism. I work well with people facing addictions, grief, relationship issues, life decisions, and mood disorders. My communication style I like to collaborate! I ask questions and often share my own experiences. I am a sober cancer survivor who has experienced grief, trauma, and hard life decisions. I always find ways to cope and move through obstacles. I will share if relevant, but prefer sessions to focus on you and how to move you to a better, more manageable place. My journey to mental healthcare I believe it is a privilege to do what I do. I was first licensed in the 90s as a therapist in the Midwest, working in rehab for adolescents and adults facing addiction and dual diagnosis. I took a different path when I left Illinois, spending about 15 years in sales. Counseling helped me be a better salesperson! Now that I am in Florida, counseling found me again, and I couldn?t be happier. I?m a little wiser today, having experienced my own journey through divorce, addiction, trauma, grief, cancer, and other health problems. I have learned much along the way and find it the biggest gift to share what I?ve learned and show others how to keep moving through life on life?s terms.
