Myra Cox, LPC

Psychotherapist
VA
Hi there, I'm Myra! The process of starting therapy can be intimidating and frightening. I congratulate you on beginning your journey, and I am here to make sure that it is meaningful to you. I enjoy working with adults who have anxiety, depression, and/or substance abuse issues. I take a client-centered approach to therapy, tailoring each session to your needs and goals. I welcome you to contact me when you are ready to begin treatment. My goal is to provide a safe place where you can talk about anything that might be bothering you. To help you identify and reshape unhealthy thinking patterns, I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). With this approach, you will gain more control over your emotions and behaviors. Depending on your needs, I can incorporate practices such as mindfulness or meditation. Medication might be helpful if you have a Primary Care Physician or Psychiatrist involved. Together, we will identify your challenges and devise strategies to help you move forward and achieve your goals. Have you been experiencing anxious thoughts or self-doubt lately? I provide support to adults dealing with anxiety, life transitions, substance abuse issues, and self-esteem concerns. Whether you are struggling to cope with trauma, building coping skills, or developing a growth plan, I am here to support you. I practice active listening and will allow you to reflect on your experience with me as an empathetic partner. When processing challenging situations, you can expect me to be calm, patient, and attentive. I prioritize clear, open communication to create a supportive, nonjudgmental therapeutic environment. I believe in honesty and saying what is on your mind. My journey to mental healthcare began in grade school, where I always pulled for kids who were bullied or less social. I hold a Master's degree in Counseling from Lindsey Wilson College, which has equipped me with the skills to support you effectively on your path to wellness.
