Hi there, I'm Nailah! My name is Nailah Cook. I am a licensed clinical social worker in DC, MD, and VA. I have been providing clinical services for over 20 years. I utilize a comprehensive approach to treatment based on the unique needs of each individual. I believe in a strong therapeutic appliance that results in success for my clients. My approach My philosophy of treatment begins with forming a strong therapeutic alliance while introducing Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) as the foundation for treatment. I also incorporate other therapeutic modalities such as EMDR, DBT, ACT, Person-Centered, and Gestalt therapy, among many others. My focus I typically work with individuals experiencing chronic anxiety and depression. Additionally, I work with adults and adolescents who have a dual diagnosis that includes substance abuse and mental illness. I treat individuals suffering from PTSD and psychosis. My typical client ranges in age from 5 years and up. My communication style My sessions are generally routine. I always start with a recap of the previous session, followed by a temperature check of the client's emotional state and mindfulness exercises incorporating deep breathing and grounding. Afterward, we jump into a specific activity or lesson utilizing one or more therapeutic modalities such as CBT or ACT. My journey to mental healthcare I started in the field of social work in 2000 as a family services worker for the local Head Start program in Southwest Virginia. I fell in love with the work of helping children and families overcome the obstacles and barriers that result in negative outcomes. I later finished school to become a licensed and skilled clinician, further helping individuals and families overcome the obstacles that have impeded their success.
