What should a new client know about working with you?

Greetings! I am Nakei Powell, a Licensed Mental Health Therapist with 10+ years of experience in the counseling field. In 2009 I graduated from University of Pheonix with a Bachelor of Science in psychology continuing with my education I successfully graduated from Capella University in 2013 with a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling. I enjoy working with individuals and families to inspire hope, build resilience, and provide guidance to those seeking life transformation. As a therapist I understand the importance of setting ethical boundaries while still being able to see past your presenting symptoms and obstacles, however I view clients as valuable individuals capable of growth and personal advancement. I am dedicated to fostering a safe and supportive environment for my clients to express themselves freely without any fear of judgment. My approach involves creating a therapeutic atmosphere that mirrors a guided conversation, equipping clients with the necessary tools to navigate their challenges and maintain mental well-being in the long run.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe that the most important aspect of counseling is building a strong therapeutic relationship where clients feel safe sharing their vulnerable circumstances. For our initial sessions we will work to build that relationship and establish treatment goals. During treatment I will help you gain awareness regarding your unique situation and how your feelings and thoughts can contribute to actions and responses. Utilizing cognitive behavioral and solution focus therapy I will assist you with shifting out of your comfort zone, so you are able to develop and implement healthy decision-making skills and coping strategies to manage your symptoms independently.
