Psychotherapist
OH
Hello, I'm Nakeia, a Licensed Independent Social Worker with Supervision Designation (LISW-S) in the State of Ohio. My journey began in Youngstown, OH, and brought me to Columbus about 27 years ago when I started as a freshman at The Ohio State University. I earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) degree there and later returned to obtain my Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. Over the past 21 years, I've gained clinical experience working with children, adolescents, families, and adults in various settings such as outpatient clinics, schools, and community environments. Additionally, I've spent the last 11 years in leadership roles, focusing on strategy and planning, business operations, project management, and training and development. I'm also a proud member of the Columbus Association of Black Social Workers, a local chapter of the National Association of Black Social Workers (NABSW). I am deeply passionate about mental health and committed to reducing the stigma of mental illness, particularly in communities of color. My clinical practice has involved supporting individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, family conflict, relationship issues, grief and loss, trauma, life transitions, stress, and behavioral challenges. I have a special interest in women's issues, especially as they intersect with race, ethnicity, class, and gender, and the cultural implications these intersections have on mental health and wellness. As a therapist, I bring my whole self into our sessions: Black, Woman, Daughter, Sister, Auntie, Pet Owner, Friend, Colleague, Social Worker, Therapist, Teacher, Student, Advocate, Business Owner, and Change Agent. I believe in the transformative power of building trust, showing vulnerability, being authentic, and embracing change. I appreciate the arts and self-expression, and I strive for balanced living through traveling, walking trails, meditation, yoga, healthy eating, and fellowship. I also enjoy reggae and afrobeats, and I like to think I was an island 'gal' in a past life! If you're looking for a therapist who is dedicated, compassionate, and ready to support you on your journey, I would be honored to work with you. Let's take this step together.
