Getting to know Nakeita Johnson
Hello, I'm Nakeita Johnson, a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Richmont Graduate University. Over the past 8 years, I've had the honor of working with male youth offenders aged 14-17 involved in DeKalb County Juvenile Drug Court. My experience extends to working with children, adolescents, and adults in various settings, including community-based, inpatient, and outpatient environments, as well as with adolescents in DFCS custody and foster care residential settings. Currently, I provide therapy for adults dealing with unhealthy attachments, depressive and anxious symptoms, stress, low self-esteem, and relationship issues. I understand the implications and potential setbacks these issues can cause, which is why I consistently provide a safe space for my clients to feel heard, understood, and supported without fear of judgment. My approach to therapy is holistic, exploring the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of each client. I integrate spirituality into psychotherapy by combining the special revelation of God’s word with the general revelation found in the science of psychology, but only upon clients' request. Additionally, I utilize Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), both of which focus on examining our thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes and how they influence our behaviors. This helps in improving emotional regulation and developing effective coping strategies to address current problems. In my free time, I enjoy watching action and comedy movies and spending quality time with family and friends.
