Bulimia hijacked her life in college. Trapped and out of control, I was sitting in the back seat of life with my disorder at the wheel. Eating disorders weren't a “thing” back then. I thought I was the only one who "did it" and was trapped in self-hatred and disgust. No one knew my ugly secret. I'd become a magician. Everything was hidden from the audience. But beneath my bulimia was depression, despair, and desperation. I have been in your shoes and traveled this harrowing path. Endless failed diets “prove” you're not good enough, pretty enough, thin enough, smart enough… any and all of it. You may have tried therapy-perhaps more than once-but “it didn't work.” Shame and blame shadow you. Hope seems a mirage. The truth is that diets don't work. You've tried them all, like everyone else… Keto, South Beach, Jenny Craig, Zone, Nutrisystem… or starving, binging and purging, restricting. “I'll start over on Monday” - an all-too-familiar chant. It is not your fault!!! Why don't diets work? Because the causes of the disorder remain unresolved. Think about it. What happens if you cut off a weed and leave the roots? It is a matter of time. It will grow back. This is the crux of yo-yo dieting. An eating disorder is the unwanted weed. Its roots are in your unique, complex history. Without resolving the roots, the possibility for an enduring recovery is seriously compromised. “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.” (Albert Einstein) The processes of treatment and recovery are notoriously difficult. There are many talented therapists, but finding one who effectively treats eating disorders is elusive at best. Given my personal and professional history, including a Master's in Social Work and a Master's in Special Education from the State University of New York, Buffalo, I am uniquely equipped to guide you out of the abyss. This is not cookie-cutter therapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have been on both sides of the 'therapeutic table'. I was in treatment for many years... long enough to overcome my bulimia and heal from early struggles, find my Self, find my life's path and become comfortable with myself - inside and out. As a result of treatment, I have a full and meaningful life without this grueling struggle. Therapy saved my life. Since my recovery, I have practiced as a (systems) therapist for 35 years. My work is my passion. Helping clients change the trajectory of their lives through healing, learning new skills, finding their voice and connecting deeply with others inspires me every day. At the close of treatment, self-understanding, compassion and acceptance emerge as your prizes from the process. I am truly honored when I am entrusted with resolving their past struggles and traumas.... the roots of their disorders.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I utilize a wholistic approach to therapy. Treatment is based on a thorough exploration of how and why this tenacious disorder hijacked your life. This includes exploring family relationships and heritage, peer and school experiences, neurology and genetics. When woven together, a comprehensive understanding of your disorder emerges. This “life-line” paves the path for treatment.... Everyone's treatment plan is meticulously tailored to them. Following the assessment, you set goals for therapy. Some examples include overcoming the disorder, resolving depression and shattered self-esteem, healing past traumas and losses, improving personal and family relationships and strengthening communication skills. After treatment, the trajectory of your future will change. This time you will be at the helm and in full control of your life. I know the path. Let me show you the way. You deserve the many blessings of recovery. Please gift this to yourself. If not with me, then with someone else. Recovery is waiting for you. Always remember. Never give up!!!
