Nancy Whittaker, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
My name is Nancy Whittaker. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with more than 15 years of experience supporting people in their therapeutic journeys and exploring how we heal, grow, and change. I love sitting with people as they discover and practice new ways of being—in how they relate to themselves, their experiences, and the world around them. Who we are and how we act often result from patterns learned early on that are held in the body and nervous system. We can make lasting changes in our lives and relationships by understanding how these patterned ways of being affect us and learning to settle our nervous system. My approach The work I do is collaborative, strengths-based, and experiential. It creates a process of discovery, growth, healing, and integration unique to each individual. Together, we mindfully study the whole-person experience. By exploring all that is held in the body—movements, sensations, emotions, thoughts, and memories—we can uncover our patterns and identify how we want to change. Using somatic, mindfulness, and acceptance-based approaches along with experiential exercises, I help clients discover, embody, and integrate change. I am trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for Trauma and Developmental Injury—a whole-body approach that uses physical and sensory experience alongside thoughts and emotions in the healing process. I also draw on other somatic, existential, and humanistic approaches, including Polyvagal Theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and other psychobiological and attachment-focused modalities. My focus I work with adults of all ages and identities who are struggling with life challenges, relationship difficulties, or behavior patterns they wish to change. My hope is to help people heal beyond the point they’ve been able to reach so far.
