Getting to know Natalie Fraize

Genuineness, empathy, humor, warmth, openness, compassion, and curiosity are some of the values I prioritize in working with clients. I believe my role is to create a safe space for you to reflect, process, heal, explore, and grow, providing information and tools as you need them. While we may start sessions by considering what happened since our last meeting, I will help you pull back and see the patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that repeat across different areas of your life over time. Focusing our work on these cycles will allow you to thoughtfully, intentionally, and confidently take the next step in service of your values rather than feeling stuck and endlessly putting out the little fires that pop up in your life. I hold a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Mary Washington, which have equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support you effectively on your journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy is not one size fits all. Therapy should be tailored to your needs and what you need from therapy may change as you change. If you have an idea of therapy that you don’t like, you’ve had a bad experience, or you know exactly what you want, these are things I hope you’ll tell me so that I can provide you with the best experience possible. I have experience working on interdisciplinary teams to provide therapy and have seen the benefits of having multiple sources of input. I believe that the more collaboration there is, the better. If there is anyone you feel should be involved in your treatment, such as your primary care physician or psychiatrist, I am excited to work as a team to provide the best care possible.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Think about a time when you felt safe, warm, and comfortable talking about your experience whether your thoughts, feelings, dreams, relationships, fears, or hopes. My goal is to create a space for you to explore your life and yourself with the benefit of my unbiased observations and knowledge of mental health. We each bring our own expertise to the table but the value of therapy lies in the power of the relationship. That means that a lot of our time in the beginning is spent getting to know you. While I believe therapy is an active process, I do not rush to intervene especially before we have established a therapeutic relationship. Whatever brings you to therapy at this time, I'm aware that you have spent years, often decades, doing things the same way. You may realize that a change would be beneficial but likely there is still some work to do around understanding what changes can be made, how the patterns of thinking and behavior came to be in the first place, and what change would even look like. Throughout the process, I will encourage you to identify your values, make use of your strengths, and build a healthy foundation for your mental wellness on a daily basis because these are the areas that I have seen provide lasting results and stability for clients.
