Nathan Choi, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Nathan! Most people who find me have already tried the advice — read the books, made the lists, talked to friends. Something still isn't moving. I help adults and teens navigate anxiety, relationship issues, and men's issues toward real belonging. I don't hand out homework or tell you what your problem is. You're the expert on your life. My focus I work with adults and teens living with anxiety, depression, or addiction — often people who look like they're holding it together but feel unmoored underneath. If you're self-aware and tired of being handed strategies that don't touch the real thing, we'll get along. You don't need the right words. Just come as you are. My approach My approach is deeply person-centered, relational, and psychodynamically informed. I don't look at you as a set of symptoms to be fixed, nor do I hand out rigid homework or pretend to know your life better than you do. Instead, we work together to uncover underlying patterns, offering an honest, attentive space where you can finally hear yourself. My communication style Expect honesty. Expect silence sometimes — the quiet is often where the real thing surfaces. Expect me to ask about the thing you just glossed over. I won't judge you and I won't flatter you, so you'll always know where you stand. And expect, at some point, to feel that I actually get it — and to use that as a place to stand. My journey to mental healthcare I started at UC Berkeley studying Cognitive Science, fascinated by how the mind works. But what kept pulling at me wasn't the mechanics — it was people, and how rarely any of us feel truly heard. The more I listened, the more I saw change come not from being fixed, but from being understood. That became the work I chose. My goals for you Your goals are yours to set — I don't assign them. Together, we get clear on what actually matters to you, then notice what's been quietly getting in the way.
