Nephetia Tryman-Whittaker, LPC

Psychotherapist
VA
Hi there, I'm Nephetia! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over ten years of experience providing mental health care for individuals. I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2000 and a Master's Degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University in 2012. My approach My theoretical approach is based on the belief that clients are in charge of their counseling experience, allowing treatment to be individualized. I use an integrative therapeutic approach, including CBT, Person-Centered, Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I enjoy helping others reach their goals and feel more emotional stability overall. My focus I have experience assisting and supporting clients to overcome and cope with depression, anxiety, grief, issues specific to women, low self-esteem, and anger. I work with adults, teens, and the LGBTQI+ population. My communication style I am a compassionate and affirming therapist who strives to provide a safe and judgment-free space for clients to express themselves and utilize their strengths to achieve their goals. Decreasing negative symptoms and helping each client live healthier lives is the ultimate goal. Building a strong therapeutic rapport and my ability to empathize with clients on issues they face daily are my most vital qualities. My journey to therapy My first experience with therapy was in 2004 after I gave birth to my twins. I struggled with postpartum depression. The therapist was warm, inviting, and relatable, and I knew I wanted to help other women experiencing difficulties in life.
