Getting to know Nicholas DeFazio

Taking care of our mental health in a world that often does not give us the time or resources to do so is beyond overwhelming. This is especially true for individuals who hold identities that are marginalized by society. If you are looking for a safe space to explore your identity, develop a healthier sense of self, build healthier relationships, and heal from past trauma, you are in the right place! I specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ teens and adults as well as individuals living with Borderline Personality Disorder, a community often stigmatized even in the mental health community. I hold a Master's in Social Work from City University of New York, Hunter College, which has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to provide compassionate and effective care.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is client-centered, affirming and utilizes evidence-based modalities such as CBT, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing. In our work together, you can develop better self-esteem, build healthy relationships, as well as learn emotional regulation and distress tolerance skills to help you manage difficult emotions and prevent crises.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

What differentiates my approach is authenticity—I believe in being myself in sessions and creating an environment where clients can as well. If you are looking to collaborate to make lasting changes to improve your mental health, I would love to be a part of your journey!
