Nicky Cheng, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Nicky! If you’ve done therapy before but still feel stuck somewhere between insight and real change, you’re not alone. I work with adults and older adults navigating life transitions, mood challenges, caregiving stress, and complex histories, including suicidal thoughts, bipolar disorder, and psychosis. My approach invites you to become the cartographer of your mind, mapping out where you’ve been, where you’d like to go, and the stories that have shaped that journey. Sure, the map won’t be perfect (real life throws in detours, flat tires, and the occasional emotional traffic jam), but it gives us direction. And as you start making actual changes, we’ll add new mile markers together—so your map becomes a living, evolving reflection of the path you’re truly on. My approach In therapy, my priority is to help you understand the deeper story behind your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors—not just to manage symptoms, but to make meaningful, lasting shifts. I use cognitive behavioral concepts to simplify how beliefs shaped by past experiences influence the way you interpret triggering events, and how those interpretations drive emotional and behavioral responses. I believe you already hold the wisdom to resolve your challenges—my role is to help you uncover it, explore the apprehension around potential consequences, and move with greater clarity and confidence. I also work through a Gestalt-informed lens, recognizing how unmet needs and unresolved experiences often resurface in the narratives we find ourselves repeating. Therapy with me is about making space for those stories, understanding where they came from, and giving you the tools and trust to write new ones, rooted in your values, your voice, and your sense of what’s truly possible.
