“Nicole is the best therapist I‚Äôve ever had, she‚Äôs completely changed my life and helped me through some of my toughest moments. She has a chill energy while still being ‚Äúno bs‚Äù and calls me out when I‚Äôm self sabotaging or spiraling. She‚Äôs the perfect balance of a therapist who lets you speak but also asks inquisitive follow up questions to dive into the root of what you‚Äôre talking about. She makes thoughtful connection back to previous discoveries in therapy, too.”

She's very kind and empathetic, and she listens and responds to what you say (I list this as a positive because I've had some therapists that don't even do this). Getting to know Nicole Calvino

My name is Nicole Calvino, and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s in Social Work from California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt. I'm empathetic and view the world as a series of unique interactions and experiences. I am supportive and kind; my dry humor is famous. My approach My approach is client-centered and strengths-based. I pull from multiple theories and approaches to develop a unique set of interventions tailored to the person I'm working with. Some of the common theoretical models I utilize in therapy are trauma-informed/focused, such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Seeking Safety. I also incorporate elements from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. My focus I typically work with people experiencing challenges with self-esteem and self-efficacy, shame, and anxiety. I also work with adults and teens who have a history of trauma, particularly related to social forces such as discrimination and isolation. Additionally, I support those who feel they have an unhealthy or unhelpful relationship with certain behaviors or choices and want to create habits that stick. My communication style My communication style is warm, gentle, and direct. If you’re comfortable, I may bring a little humor where appropriate. I will help you notice the discrepancy between your goals and your behaviors and will support you through the process of removing obstacles. You should feel that I hold you in unconditional positive regard and that I am not judging you for the reasons we are talking today. My journey to mental healthcare There have been patterns I noticed in my own life that led to therapist-like behaviors long before I became one. In no particular order: 1) A woman crying in the bathroom? Ask if she’s okay. 2) Noticing when loud people get quiet, or quiet people get loud. 3) Friends reaching out after a while—what’s the ask?

I appreciate she challenges me in a positive way to help me reach my goals. I also appreciate the patience needed for me to work at my own pace. Challenging me however has helped move forward when my pace is too slow toward progress
Really works well to provide me with the space to express my feelings and give me exercises to help me regulate. The active listening and suggestions provided are invaluable to the person I am now.
We have developed an excellent working relationship, and she tremendously easy to talk to. Her ability to use, recognize, and appreciate humor (where appropriate) has helped me feel relaxed and open as our therapy goes on as well.

I’ve had a few therapists before Nicole. They were ok for a few sessions, but there was a lack of growth in the conversations. Nicole always comes prepared to meet you where you are and has a variety of approaches. She has given me a lot of tools and feedback that has helped me grow and improve. Happy to have found her.
