I am our resident children and young adult therapist at Sunrise Counseling! Our younger clients love the approach of using games, play therapy, art, exercise, and talk therapy to work through their worries and problems. As a former Special Education teacher, I loved working with children with mild to moderate intellectual delays and students with ADHD. Completing my Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at South University opened my perspective on how to provide extra tools for the exceptional child. This continues to drive my work. I collaborate with parents navigating IEP and 504 meetings and provide recommendations for school teams on supporting children with conduct issues. I also work with young adolescents dealing with grief, depression, and anxiety. I previously served five fantastic years enlisted in the United States Navy. As a mom myself, I understand the stresses and pressures parents face in daily life struggles. Though my main focus is working with kids, I deeply care about supporting co-parenting and helping great parents become even more effective. I am fluent in Spanish and English and can assist families who need a bilingual therapist. I focus on the individual as a whole, not just their problems. Most challenges we face are consequences of external triggers that might not seem to affect us. Another essential perspective I like to incorporate is spirituality; I believe we are all part of something bigger than what we can see.
