Life is often complex and confusing, and the pain of trauma is intense. Trauma can be one event that scares you and makes you feel helpless, or a chain of them that teach your body that the world is not to be trusted. Anxiety is a daily reality, and moving through life feels like navigating a room full of carnival mirrors and moving mazes. Worry for the future keeps us awake at night. The past intrudes on our present, drives our behavior in ways we cannot explain, and leaves us questioning our own motivation and even our sanity. Thoughts can become so loud in our heads that rest is not possible. Relationships can feel like swamps where everything is scary and your safety is always at risk. In therapy, we can explore the anxiety together, understand it, and learn how to ease it. We can learn how it gets triggered and see how the past has shaped the perceptions of the brain and body. Slowly, the chaos slows and then stops altogether. Peace and safety become the new realities, and the world becomes colorful, vibrant, and full of potential. I am EMDR trained and trauma trained, holding a Master’s in Counseling from Argosy University.
