And, even though all is not 100 percent well, I attribute this feeling of self love to the works and lessons with Ms Barker.
She is calm, her voice is soothing, her out look is nurturing but one of her greatest attributes as a therapist is that she is Relatable. We come from different cultural backgrounds and that has never posed a problem or made me feel like she didn't understand my prospective. Getting to know Odia Barker
Congratulations on your decision to prioritize yourself! I’m honored to begin this therapeutic journey with you. Beginning therapy can be daunting and may make you feel extremely vulnerable, but I’m here to support and guide you through it all. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Touro College and University System in Manhattan, which equips me with the knowledge and skills to provide compassionate and effective care.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I strive to create an empathic, respectful and affirming therapeutic relationship with you that is tailored to meet your unique needs. These needs may include a desire to maintain healthier familial/social/intimate relationships; identify and implement more consistent self-care practices or coping strategies; develop a deeper understanding of self; set firmer boundaries; process/heal from trauma; etc.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
I am a licensed clinical social worker with years of experience serving a variety of populations and mental health diagnoses (i.e. depression, anxiety, trauma, stress/anger management, etc.) using integrative approaches including but not limited to psychodynamic, humanistic, interpersonal, cognitive behavioral and holistic.
