You've been the one who holds it together. The friend who answers the late-night texts. The daughter who manages the family logistics. The colleague who keeps everything running. From the outside, things look fine — but inside, you're exhausted, anxious, or quietly grieving a version of yourself you haven't been in a long time. Maybe something happened — a loss, a breakup, a move, a moment that cracked the surface — and now the feelings you've been outrunning are catching up. Or maybe nothing "big" has happened at all, and that confuses you most. Either way, you're tired of performing okay-ness, and you'd like somewhere to put all of this down. I'm Patty (she/they), an Associate Clinical Social Worker at Resilient Heart Therapy. I work with individuals and couples who are ready to stop white-knuckling their lives and start actually living them. Together we'll slow down enough to listen to what your anxiety, sadness, or shutdown is trying to tell you — and build the tools and inner safety you need to move forward without abandoning yourself in the process.

Getting to know Patricia Perez

What should a new client know about working with you?

With individuals, my approach is grounded in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and trauma-informed care, with a strengths-based lens. Translation: I don't see you as broken. I see the parts of you that have been working overtime to keep you safe — and my job is to help you understand them, soften toward them, and reconnect with the calmer, capable self underneath. With couples, I work using the Gottman Method — a research-backed approach for partners who feel stuck in recurring conflict, more like roommates than teammates, or working through a specific rupture. The work is structured and practical, grounded in decades of research on what actually helps couples rebuild friendship, trust, and the ability to turn toward each other when it matters most. I bring particular care and lived understanding to working with young professionals navigating burnout and identity, LGBTQIA+ clients (I'm queer myself), and women of color carrying generational and cultural weight that often goes unnamed in therapy rooms. I offer sessions in English and Spanish. And if you're outside those groups and something on this page made you feel a little less alone — you belong here too.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first few sessions focus on getting to know you—your background, the experiences that have shaped you, and what’s bringing you to therapy now. Together we explore the onset of your current concerns and clarify what you hope to gain from our work, whether that’s processing grief or trauma, learning new coping skills, or building confidence in setting boundaries and navigating relationships. I typically meet with clients once per week, which allows space for reflection, growth, and consistency. If someone is experiencing higher levels of distress or risk, such as active suicidal ideation or self-harm, I may recommend meeting twice per week for additional support until things feel more stable. For some people, therapy is a shorter-term process focused on addressing a specific concern. Others choose to stay longer as they move through different phases of life and want continued support. Throughout our work together, we check in regularly about your goals so therapy continues to feel meaningful, supportive, and aligned with what you need.
