Getting to know Paul Souza

Hi there, I'm Paul! I believe effective therapy is based on a good fit between the therapist and client that promotes safety and trust. I approach treatment through a psychodynamic lens to help people understand what brought them to this point. With this knowledge, a person can feel more empowered to make different choices to live the life they have envisioned. I am Jungian-informed, helping people make sense of their dreams and find meaning in them. I specialize in trauma using EMDR therapy and incorporate several modalities, such as Internal Family Systems, parts mapping, and DBT skills, to facilitate reprocessing past experiences. The beauty of EMDR therapy is that we won't rehash the past repeatedly; it can be short-term. I firmly believe that people can lead more fulfilling lives when they are free of the shackles of past trauma. I am a military veteran and have worked with veterans, first responders, and law enforcement. I hold a Master's degree in Counseling from California State University, Fresno.
