Psychotherapist
VA
Hi, I am Dr. Cooks. Do you feel that your emotions are like ocean waves-unpredictable and unmanageable? You often need to talk to someone but feel no one will understand or have the time to help you unpack the weight you carry. I am here and ready to help you get back to functioning better. My goal is to provide mental health services to you and/or your family struggling with life stressors such as depression, grief, anxiety, PTSD, behavior problems, as well as marital or premarital relationship issues. I also support persons who have been victimized by sexual, physical, or substance abuse. I earned my Doctorate in Professional Counseling from Mississippi College, which has equipped me to offer effective, efficient, and competent therapeutic services aimed at stabilizing your mental health. My mission is to provide an inclusive counseling program focused on emotional well-being, social and educational enhancement, all within an ardent, nurturing, and compassionate environment so my clients achieve lasting success in school and the communities where they live. My treatment methodology centers on Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), a psychotherapeutic approach that helps patients understand the thoughts and feelings influencing their behaviors. CBT is commonly used to treat a wide range of disorders, including phobias, addictions, depression, and anxiety. It is usually short-term and focused on helping patients address specific problems. During treatment, clients learn to recognize and change destructive or disturbing thought patterns that negatively impact behavior. I also use Eclectic Therapy, incorporating solution-focused, brief therapy, trauma-focused approaches, motivational interviewing, and more.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
