Getting to know Peter Stephens

Hello! My name is Peter Stephens, and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the state of California. I graduated with my Master's of Science in Counseling from Loma Linda University in 2019. I am also working toward a Doctorate in Applied Clinical Psychology (PsyD) from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Anaheim. My clinical approach to therapy includes a humanistic-existential framework and unconditional positive regard for each person sitting across from me. I maintain a non-judgmental perspective and aim to build therapeutic rapport as an act of corrective relationship and healthy attachment. I utilize Gestalt therapy, person-centered therapy, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral interventions during one-on-one individual therapy sessions, as well as solution-focused and emotion-focused therapies. My goal is to help build self-awareness, insight, and assertive communication skills while increasing each individual's level of emotional authenticity in order to reconcile past hurts and allow for psychological wounds to begin to heal. Integrating “cut off” parts of the self and allowing the person to reconnect with who they really are is a pivotal component of the therapeutic healing process. After all, you can't heal from something you can't feel. I look forward to working with you.
