Getting to know Peter Tegner

My career has always focused on making connections with empathy. In my early career as a ski instructor, I learned that genuine rapport and understanding are crucial for ensuring safety, promoting fun, and facilitating learning. In my subsequent roles as an IT project manager and organizational leader, candid communication and clear alignment enabled me to build successful partnerships in complex organizations. Meeting people where they are and using these principles and experiences guides the way I care genuinely for clients in my therapeutic practice. When I’m not with clients, I’m often exploring Colorado, hiking, or relaxing with my wife, family, and friends. Winter brings skiing, which remains a passion for me – I continue to teach part-time, enthusiastically sharing the sport and its special setting with students of all ages and ability levels.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My experience as a ski instructor taught me the importance of empathy, which led to my becoming a therapist. Teaching skiing on the side of a mountain requires building trust and rapport, managing the scene to meet the client's needs and wishes, and maintaining safety while fostering a fun and educational environment. I use this empathy-based, client-centered approach throughout my therapeutic practice now. Coupled with life experiences, my passion for empathic connection became my calling to train for a career dedicated to exceptional clinical work.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe that the cornerstone of effective therapy is empathy – making a genuine connection that allows me to see the world through my patients’ eyes. Relating in this way allows me to assist you in understanding, dealing with, and resolving difficult experiences and patterns to gain insight, freedom, and joy. These deeply held values result in a safe space where you can better see and resolve issues in our work together. My style is warm and candid – I am your ally in the healing process while utilizing a blend of therapeutic modalities tailored to your situation, goals, and wishes. Through our sessions, you'll gain insight and relief to turn challenges into coping skills and adverse experiences into assets.
