“My first session was a very positive experience. What stood out most was the quality of listening; Dr. Peyton was thoughtful, attentive and never led me to feel rushed. The space felt professional while still grounded in real care and humanity. In a day and age where treatment may often feel transactional, my session concluded with feelings of hope, insight and support. I am grateful to have found someone I will surely continue working with.”

Getting to know Peyton Stokes Sutton

I'm a licensed therapist who specializes in working with athletes, young adults, and BIPOC individuals navigating performance anxiety, life transitions, and identity challenges. As a former athlete who competed in a predominantly white sport, I bring both professional expertise and lived experience to my practice. I use evidence-based approaches like CBT, Gestalt therapy, and Brainspotting, combined with a direct, compassionate style that meets clients where they are. I believe in challenging my clients to grow while creating a safe space for authentic conversations about pressure, perfectionism, and finding your voice.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I'm not your typical "sit in a chair and talk" therapist. I offer walk-and-talk sessions and can meet you at your court, field, or gym if that's where you feel most comfortable. I work with teens who "don't want to be there" and high-functioning individuals who are tired of pretending everything's fine. My approach is collaborative—I'll challenge your thinking when needed, but I won't sugarcoat things or give you generic advice. I specialize in sports performance issues, family conflict, anxiety, and helping people through major life transitions. If you're ready for honest conversations that create real change, we'll work well together. PLEASE NOTE: I do not accept insurance in the state of Indiana and am only private pay. I do accept insurance in the state of Texas.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first session, we'll discuss what brought you to therapy, your goals, and any previous therapy experiences. I'll learn about your background, including cultural factors that shape your experience. For athletes, we'll talk about your sport, performance concerns, and any transitions you're facing. Together, we'll develop a personalized treatment plan. I use different therapeutic approaches based on your needs—CBT for changing thought patterns, Gestalt work for self-awareness, and Brainspotting for deeper emotional processing. Most of my clients work with me long-term to create lasting change, though some couples prefer shorter-term work (typically 6-8 sessions). I regularly check in about your progress and adjust our approach as needed. My goal is helping you develop practical skills and authentic confidence that work in your daily life.
