Philippa Mariner, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi, my name is Philippa Mariner, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master's in Social Work from Loma Linda University. I am a strength-based therapist because I believe in and like to build on the inherent strength of a person. My approach I use strength-based and cognitive-behavioral therapy, as well as reality and humanistic therapy. I believe that people are the experts of their own lives, and my purpose as a therapist is to support, encourage, and empower them to empower themselves. My focus I currently work with couples who are separated or going through a divorce, helping them establish a parenting plan. During sessions, I address their depression, anxiety, and often the trauma of domestic violence. I am comfortable working with individuals struggling with problems related to their social environment. My communication style I believe it is vital for people to feel comfortable in my presence. I want clients to feel validated, to know their thoughts and feelings are respected, and that they are truly heard. I am comfortable with silence and offer unconditional acceptance without judgment. My journey to mental healthcare I worked as a Probation Corrections Officer with the San Bernardino Probation Department from 2006 to 2013. After graduating with my MSW, I wanted to continue working with juveniles in detention but from a therapeutic perspective. I then applied for the Clinical Therapist I position and worked with the San Bernardino Probation Department from 2013 until 2018. After leaving that role, I sought to broaden my therapeutic skills and joined the Community Crisis Response Team, first as a Clinical Therapist I and then as a Clinical Therapist II. As a CTI, I provided crisis assessments to evaluate the need for psychiatric hospitalization. Working in the community deepened my awareness of mental illness, family strength, and self-determination. As a CTII, I was able to enrich staff awareness of the impact they have.
