Phillip Yao, LMFT

Phillip Yao, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
My name is Phillip Yao, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from California Baptist University. My approach to therapy centers on learning as much as I can about each person to tailor treatment to their unique needs. I believe that even when symptoms appear similar, individuals respond differently, so goals and plans should be personalized. I utilize a blend of strength-based, humanistic, and narrative approaches that help me understand clients fully and identify key themes in their lives. I have the most experience working with children, teenagers, and young adults, typically ages 5 to 21 and beyond. My areas of focus include Depression, Anxiety, Childhood behaviors, ADHD, and communication challenges. I strive to create a casual, welcoming environment where clients feel free to express themselves authentically. Whether that means using modern slang, memes, or speaking professionally, I adapt to whatever communication style works best for you. My journey into mental healthcare began when I was in therapy myself. Feeling stuck in a job, I experienced powerful personal growth through therapy, which helped me return to school, earn my Master’s degree, and reach new milestones. I want others to experience that same sense of possibility and achievement, no matter how stuck they may feel. There is almost always a way forward, and I am here to help you find it. I work collaboratively with clients to set and achieve meaningful goals. Your first session with me will be a relaxed opportunity to get to know each other and explore what brings you to therapy.
