Psychotherapist
CA
My name is Rachel Gileno, and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist with a Master's in Counseling Psychology from Chapman University. My approach to therapy is client-centered and trauma-informed. I utilize DBT and mindfulness practices to assist clients with becoming more grounded and present-moment-focused. My approach I believe the therapist/client relationship is paramount. I place an emphasis on rapport building and clear, authentic communication with the folks I work with. The modalities I utilize to assist clients with reaching their goals are primarily DBT and CBT. My focus I typically work with clients who struggle with emotional regulation, impulsivity, issues in interpersonal relationships, depression, anxiety, and trauma-related symptoms. I have experience treating Borderline Personality Disorder, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and PTSD. My communication style My communication style is open and direct. It is important to me that clients experience our time together as authentic, collaborative, and free of judgment. I welcome feedback about the process and will elicit this feedback by asking clients what was helpful and not helpful each session. This helps ensure that we are implementing interventions that are individualized to each person and moving folks towards their goals. My journey to therapy I initially became attracted to this work while raising a child who struggled with severe emotional disturbance. I had a strong desire to learn everything I could in order to become the best advocate possible while navigating what can be a complex behavioral health system. My goals for you My approach to goal setting is collaborative and recovery-focused. Clients can and should be in charge of their process. This begins with exploring both short-term and long-term goals that are important to the individual.
