Getting to know Renee Tunkel

Warm Greetings! My name is Renee H. Tunkel, but I go by Hannah. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist in California since 2011. I hold a Master's degree in Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology from Santa Barbara Graduate Institute and a Bachelor's degree from the University of New Hampshire. I have an extensive background in body, mind, spirit somatic and holistic therapies. I like to incorporate a few moments of mindfulness meditation at the start of each session because I believe one of the most important aspects of therapy is being able to witness and observe what is, in order to experience something better. Often, people need to go deeper than words?to the Inner Self or Higher Self?as well as gain access to the unconscious mind, to the roots of things. Since 1997, I have been helping clients heal from anxiety, chronic pain, childhood trauma, sleep disorders, and early attachment problems. I also have experience helping couples deepen intimacy and fulfillment in relationships and sexuality. We all have old beliefs, feelings, and self-defeating patterns that get in the way of expressing our best selves and living our greatest lives?and I'm included! My passion for self-healing, lifelong learning, and all things that lead to peace and end suffering keeps me ever expanding myself and honing my skills in the best ways to help people.

What should a new client know about working with you?

The first session is a time to get to know each other to see if we're a good fit. I support clients to share what is relevant to help set the stage for where we will go in the therapy. I use a client centered approach to help individuals deepen trust, love, and self care such that their lives become naturally more fulfilling, just by them being themselves more fully. It is known that, "the body keeps the score," to quote Dr Bessel Van Der Kolk, meaning, the ultimate healing occurs at the body level. Through mindful awareness of what is, exactly as it is, a clear, efficient, and loving way of transformation becomes available. You can expect to feel seen, heard, accepted and cared for.

In-network insurances

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

I am grateful for the opportunity to work with Hannah as my therapist. She listens with her heart and consistently provides sound advice and feedback. Hannah has an impressive ability to recall details from past sessions, applying them to current situations with remarkable insight. Her kind spirit and loving mannerisms tap into my soul, creating a deeply authentic and guiding therapeutic experience. I particularly appreciate the grounding and breathing practices that she incorporates into our sessions. Her advice is thought-provoking and intuitive. I always look forward to our sessions, as I leave feeling heard, with clarity, and equipped with achievable solutions. Thank you, Hannah, for your incredible support and guidance.
I really appreciate my sessions with Renee! She helped me get off a cliff of anxiety and every session helps me find real world solutions to all of my challenges!
