Getting to know Ricardo Garcia

Hi there, I'm Ricardo! I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I enjoy helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life's challenges. I specialize in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and enjoy collaboratively assisting people to overcome anxiety and depression. My approach I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused, Narrative, DBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, and Client Centered Therapy. In working with families, I use a Structural or Experiential Approach. My focus I enjoy working with teenagers and adults. My communication style I like to keep an empathetic ear and actively listen to my client's needs and wants. I like to keep my session light but enjoy cracking the occasional joke when appropriate. My journey to mental healthcare Prior to becoming a Therapist, I worked for the Los Angeles County Probation Department. I was assigned to work in the Juvenile Hall system, where I primarily worked with transitional-aged youth (TAY). After 12 years of working in the Department, I grew tired of the revolving door and didn't feel like I was making much of an impact in changing lives. I decided to return to graduate school and start my journey to becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist. The road was not easy to become a therapist, especially with two little boys who want daddy time. But I can honestly say, there is no greater feeling than motivating change or coaching someone to meet their treatment goals. My goals for you I collaboratively build a roadmap of realistic goals. By establishing SMART goals, we collaboratively track progress. I encourage the client to set personal goals. Treatment plans are always flexible and evolve to fit the client's needs. My first session with you The first session is meant for me and my client to get to know each other and establish a strong rapport. Any good relationship is created on a foundation of trust.
