Getting to know Richard Clark

Hi there, I'm Richard! I have been counseling individuals, couples, families, and children for over 25 years in private practice, non-profit community organizations, hospitals, clinics, and schools. Having worked in a variety of diverse settings, I've gained valuable training and experience from many perspectives and incorporated this knowledge into guiding resolution for each unique client's challenges. I hold a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from National University and a Bachelor's degree from California State University. This educational background, combined with my extensive experience, supports my commitment to effective, client-centered care. My approach My focus is on Brief Solution Focused Therapy and working with you to build on your current strengths and implement strategic steps to improve your life immediately. Whether you are facing a critical problem, a significant life challenge, or looking to improve on what you are currently doing, working together, we can find a way forward to a better you. My focus I work primarily with adults and couples looking to address life's daily challenges. The world has become complicated, and challenges seem to be growing for all of us. My goal is to help you find solutions that you can implement weekly to make progress on your goals. My communication style I approach therapy and counseling in a comfortable, casual manner, using humor and metaphor liberally. Studies have shown over and over again that the key factor in counseling outcomes is a strong therapeutic alliance with close rapport. I work hard to help us achieve that type of relationship. My journey to therapy Earlier in my life, I worked in engineering. Solving problems and making things work better was always something I enjoyed. After getting involved in the study of Industrial Psychology, my focus turned toward helping people solve their problems and work better.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My goals for you It may sound trite, but my goals for you are your goals for you. My clients come to therapy for a reason. Something they want to start doing more, stop doing as much, or improve their thoughts and feelings about. Initially, I want to focus on making quick progress on what brought you here. My first session with you Our first session is about getting to know each other. After covering a few formalities, I typically offer clients an opportunity to ask any questions they might have about me, my approach, or therapy in general. Then we'll talk about what you're hoping to accomplish through counseling. The goal is for us each to feel comfortable by the end of the session and have a plan moving forward.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
