My journey to mental healthcare
I began my career in law enforcement, working in the Jail Division for L.A.P.D. before moving to the County of Los Angeles. There, I served as a Services Detention Officer, Deputy Probation Officer I, and later promoted to Deputy Probation Officer II. I then pursued a Master’s in Social Work at California State University, Northridge, transitioning from corrections to mental health. My first role in mental health was at Coalinga State Hospital, where I worked for 5 ½ years with Mentally Disordered Offenders (MDOs) and Sexually Violent Predators. As a clinician, I provided individual and group therapy sessions at DSH-Coalinga.
