Dr. Richard Mcguffin, PhD

Psychotherapist
NV
My name is Rich McGuffin, and I’m a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Nevada. I hold a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Nevada, Reno. I believe we all face struggles, and sometimes need a trained counselor to help navigate life’s storms. My philosophy is that each person is responsible for creating meaning and fulfilling their potential. My approach is empathetic and non-judgmental. I aim to help individuals, couples, and families find peace, joy, and fulfillment. I commonly use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Existential Psychotherapy, which focuses on how we create meaning in our lives. I work with clients at all life stages—from adolescence through aging. I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families from diverse backgrounds, cultures, faiths, and ethnicities. I am an LGBTQ+ ally. Many clients are First Responders and military veterans. I often treat anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship struggles. Every person, couple, and family seeks counseling to resolve life circumstances disrupting their well-being. I am committed to empowering others to live the lives they long for. While each of us is unique, we share a common humanity. If you feel alone in your problems, know that you are not. I provide a relaxed, confidential, safe space to discuss your issues without judgment. There are two kinds of people in this world—people with issues and dead people.
