Psychotherapist
CA
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I believe that each person deserves respect, understanding, and acknowledgment of their inherent value as human beings. Acknowledging each person’s value sets the stage for a healthy partnership that empowers your journey. My approach My approach to therapy is eclectic but often begins with cognitive behavioral therapy. Understanding how our perceptions may skew things is key. We also need to find a space to just be okay, no matter what. To achieve that, I like to focus on a mindful approach, which helps find our inner quiet. The key to everything is being able to express the same compassion, understanding, and kindness that we would offer to a best friend. I love this quote: “When we are mindful of our struggles, and respond to ourselves with compassion, kindness, and support in times of difficulty, things start to change.” Kristen Neff My focus My experience is broad, from children and adults to severe mental health issues such as Schizophrenia. My primary experience and talent lie with persons who suffer from depression and particularly anxiety. This may include generalized anxiety, social phobias, or just having trouble going to the store. I am also versed in the treatment of alcohol abuse and have worked with many persons who struggle. My communication style I want you to feel, first and foremost, safe. When in session, it’s important that trust is unquestionable and that clients feel a sense of comfort that allows them to be who they are. I like to think of sessions as an opportunity to let go of problems, focus on the present, and for that moment, know that you are the most important person in the room. My journey to mental healthcare My journey to becoming a therapist is long and winding. Personal struggles have defined many parts of my story. It is through my struggles that I decided to try and give back what I had acquired. The ability to be okay, no matter what life throws at you.
