Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Richard! Hello, my name is Richard Roth. I'm a licensed clinical social worker (29841) with a Master's in Social Work from the University of Michigan. I offer counseling for issues of grief and loss, alcohol and substance/addiction treatment, as well as Motivational Interviewing for behavior change and wellness. My approach I specialize in three areas of counseling, and my approach differs somewhat depending on the needs of the client. If someone is struggling with alcohol or drug use or wants to make a change in their life, I find Motivational Interviewing to be a powerful tool. Cognitive behavioral therapy is also a very useful tool I employ in substance use counseling, as it helps clients better understand the relationship between their thoughts, environment, feelings, and behaviors. With grief counseling, I believe in a framework of four steps for moving through grief and loss-accepting the loss, processing feelings about the loss, reconnecting with friends, family, and social activities, and honoring the memory of the person or thing that was lost. Ultimately, the question becomes-What step are you feeling stuck moving through? My focus I have experience and expertise counseling adults struggling with alcohol and drug problems, those experiencing grief and loss, or those wanting to increase motivation in making a change in their lives. I have years of experience working with veterans of the US military and am comfortable working with those who identify as LGBTQIA+. Please note that I only have availability for therapy sessions every other Friday. My communication style Although having a therapeutic background and framework is useful in counseling, I believe that listening deeply is the most important tool and aspect of a counseling session. In a session with me, you will feel respected and heard on a deep level. I will strive to understand and assist you in reaching your goals for change, wellness, or healing.
