Getting to know Rickey Bates

I have been practicing as a psychotherapist for over 7 years. I earned my Master's in Social Work from California State University-Dominguez Hills, where I focused on Critical Race Theory and Intersectionality and how our different life experiences shape how we navigate our surroundings. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a veteran of the United States Armed Forces, some of my approaches to helping clients identify their challenges and barriers begin with a person-centered and solution-focused approach to therapy. I recognize my clients' right to self-determination and aim to empower them to collaboratively develop obtainable short-term and long-term plans and goals for the present and future lives they want to live. Let's further explore together how to make better use of the tools you've been working with and perhaps add new tools to your toolbox-or not.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Most likely, what you can expect after the first session is focusing on your current symptoms or struggles, as well as saying a bit more about your interpersonal relationships, your interests, your strengths, and your goals, most importantly, in that first session, we will begin establishing a therapeutic connection which is crucial no matter the type of relationship you enter into.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

I appreciate the agency that Ricky allows me to decide the pace and frequency of our sessions. I feel like he listens to what I have to say and appreciate the way he's able to tie together what can initially feel like unrelated thoughts/feelings.
Rickey has been patient with me and has really challenged me to dig deeper within me. I have been carrying a lot of baggage and while we are not fully done working together, I have begun to unpack it all little by little. Rickey is not a "I'm fine" kind of therapist. He makes you work and get uncomfortable which is something that someone like me needs. Rickey is direct, straight to the point, and makes you work. Therapy only works when you out in the work and this is something I appreciate from my time with Rickey, we have worked!
Best therapist I have ever had. 11/10
After searching and trying 5 therapists, I finally found Rickey Bates and I could not be more grateful. His approach is very authentic and true. His active listening is among the best I've seen. Even more so, his questions allow me to make my own decisions with better clarity. I continue to appreciate his talent and passion for this line of work and hope he receives the proper recognition!
