Roger Hancock, LPC

Psychotherapist
TX
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Texas. I have been a professional counselor for ten and a half years, starting out in the public school system working with adolescents and teens, and am now working part-time at a local community college with a little older population - a very interesting and gratifying work! My approach I approach each client with unconditional positive regard. I rely heavily on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), allowing the client to examine and evaluate their thinking process. My focus The population I have typically worked with the most is young adults ages 18-35. I work in person and through telehealth. I am most comfortable addressing the issues of trauma, anxiety disorders, self-esteem issues, eating disorders, and relationships. My communication style My communication style is one of just listening intently, asking a question only for clarification, and giving the client time to gather their thoughts and just vent. If I can establish a rapport and build trust, that’s ninety percent of the counseling relationship. My journey to mental healthcare After obtaining my Master's Degree, I began working with at-risk youth in an alternative education center. That job was so challenging and rewarding that I knew what I wanted to do for the next twenty years - and more! My goals for you After the first session, or possibly two, I will ask the client what goals he or she would like to achieve in therapy. Then, together, we will devise a strategy to help the client achieve those goals. My first session with you Our first session will be very relaxed and informal. You will tell me your back story and ultimately why you decided to get into counseling. We will take it slow because I want to get to know you as an individual. Only then can I help you work through any issues or around any obstacles.
