Getting to know Ruby Estrada
Hi there, I'm Ruby!
Hello. My name is Ruby Estrada. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Master's degree in Counseling from Trinity College. I approach therapy at your pace, which I can follow or match with rather quickly. My focus is centered on you and building whatever strengths you put forth, whether you are aware of them or not. I help someone find a way to get through a problem or conflict-that is my approach. I am straightforward when you need me to be and gentle when the situation calls for empathy, or a balance of both.
My approach
I commonly use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help identify how you think (about yourself, the world, and the future), feel, and act, and how that may be affecting your current functioning, relationships, and moods. I also use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to help manage moods, learn how to be calm and mentally in control, relate to others effectively, and function well under stress.
My focus
For 21 years, I have treated depression, anxiety, PTSD, LGBTQ+-related issues, ADHD, and adults discovering they are on the Autism Spectrum.
My communication style
I am a listener first-open and non-defensive. I pay close attention to and carefully track your concerns. I give honest, direct, and empathic feedback. I read what is not said, such as body language and facial expressions. I try to hear what you are saying even when you have trouble expressing yourself. I want my clients to know that I am an able collaborator in helping them find a way through their personal dilemmas by building and developing therapeutic trust.
My journey to therapy
I have a family member who had a serious mental condition starting in adolescence. I witnessed mental health treatment from all angles since my teens, and I've wanted to participate in this field ever since. I put myself through college and graduate school to become a clinical therapist.
