Psychotherapist

Healing isn't a solo process. When we're feeling cut off from the people or communities around us, we struggle. As a therapist, I work with women and LGBTQ+ individuals seeking a healing space where they can show up authentically and feel supported and seen. My clients come to therapy with a variety of concerns, including chronic stress, burnout, and anxiety. Many are grieving a loss or learning to adapt to chronic illness or pain. I have extensive training and experience working with people who have experienced trauma, especially interpersonal violence such as domestic abuse or sexual assault. I also have a strong interest in working with clients on issues related to sex, relationships, and intimacy. Often, my clients want to improve their skills in navigating conflict healthily, connecting with partners on a deeper level, or enhancing their communication. As a sex-positive therapist with a decade of experience as a sex educator, I enjoy working with folks in the kink, non-monogamy, and polyamory communities. I hold a Master's in Social Work from the University of Denver and am registered to offer therapy to clients throughout California as an Associate Clinical Social Worker, under the supervision of Dr. Alexis Lopez. My CA license number is 112761, and I currently work at Stella Nova Psychology, Inc.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I'm a social-justice minded therapist who values community, self-determination, and intersectionality. My background includes a degree in Feminist Studies and a Master of Social Work. Practically, this means that I see therapy as a collaboration, where you bring in expertise about yourself and your life, and I bring in my professional training and experience to serve as a guide and facilitator. It also means that I know the things my clients bring into therapy are impacted by more than just their own individual experiences or even biology. They're influenced by your identities, your cultural and family histories, and the systems that we're all embedded in. I identify as a white-bodied, queer, disabled, fat woman. I know my own identities also impact our work together, and am open to conversations about how. I consider myself to be an integrative therapist, meaning that I draw from a variety of different traditions, including feminist, relational, and trauma-informed approaches. I can take a more directive or less structured role depending on your needs and preferences.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Great therapy starts with a great match. In our first meeting, we'll spend some time getting to know each other. I'll ask some questions to better understand you and what you're looking for out of therapy. There will also be plenty of time for you to get your own questions answered about me or therapy in general. I do my best to make our first meeting comfortable, especially if you're brand new to therapy, or if you've had a bad experience in the past. It's always your choice how much or little you want to share in our first session. By the end of our meeting, you should have a clearer idea of what it would be like for us to work together, and if the vibe feels right. We'll also start to develop a plan for how we'll work towards your goals (or figure out what those goals are). If you want to move forward, I usually schedule my clients for a regular weekly session. If there are any requests or accommodations that would help therapy work better for you, I want to know about them!
