“The process of finding a therapist can be very daunting as many of us know. I put it off for so long up until a week ago. I finally looked on ZocDoc and Sami was the first therapist to pop up for me. After looking at her profile, intuitively I felt a connection, but I decided to cover my bases and research some other doctors. Ultimately I kept coming back to Sami’s profile, so I booked the appointment and got in just a few days later! Any ounce of anxiety I felt walking into the building left my body the second I entered the office and was greeted by the receptionist (didn’t get her name, but she’s so kind!), and then the moment I met with Sami it all just kind of clicked in my brain and felt like I was giving a friend I hadn’t seen in a while the 101 on my life. I’m thrilled! Looking forward to (respectfully) trauma dumping biweekly with my new therapist! 10/10 - would recommend.”

Sammie Lugo is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Illinois who is passionate about helping people become the best versions of themselves. She has expertise in a variety of issues, including depression management, stress and anxiety management, couples and family concerns, enhancement of self-confidence and self-esteem, behavioral concerns, mood disorders, and personality disorders. Sammie uses talk therapy and other eclectic techniques to individualize her care, with particular emphasis on Emotion-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, CBT, DBT, and Existential Therapy.
Sammie earned her Master’s in Forensic Psychology from Adler University. She has a professional background as a forensic therapist treating a variety of mental health issues for the Illinois Department of Corrections and is familiar with the struggles associated with both civilian and non-civilian roles. Sammie has also worked in inpatient and outpatient settings as well as various private practice environments, always emphasizing individualized therapy. She currently works with adults, teens, children, first responders, and couples. Sammie welcomes clients of every ethnicity, cultural background, and sexual orientation.

After 12 years with my previous counselor, I decided it was probably time to move to someone with a fresh perspective after my anxiety was the worst it ever was. I was a little intimidated by having to “start over” and re-tell some of my past, but after meeting and working with Sammie for the past few months I can sincerely say she has made a huge difference in my life by giving me lots of coping tools and “homework” that gets to the root of the issues and helps me stay on track. I drive over 40 minutes to meet with Sammie and it is WELL worth the drive. She’s very gentle and insightful but also gives you that tough love approach when you’re off your game which is something I really need and appreciate. Absolutely recommend!!
