Getting to know Sandra Rico

Hi, I'm Sandra Rico, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified Sex Therapist. I utilize a Client-Centered approach to therapy where I assist clients in self-discovery, teach psycho-education, and encourage the development of coping skills to improve their lives. I hold a Master’s in Psychology from Florida International University. My therapeutic approach is eclectic, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused, Client-Centered therapy, and more. I help clients understand why they are acting a certain way and how that relates to past unresolved issues or trauma. I work with a wide variety of clients, including minorities. For telehealth sessions, I prefer seeing clients aged 18 and over. Nevertheless, some teens are interested in telehealth, and as long as interest is shown, I will work with them. I have experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and encourage emotional expression in a safe environment. With over 15 years of experience, I have treated clients for concerns such as anxiety, behavioral issues, depression, family conflict, infidelity, LGBTQ+ issues, marital and premarital challenges, parenting, relationship issues, self-esteem, sexual abuse, sleep or insomnia, trauma, and women’s issues. I encourage emotional expression and assist clients in self-discovery, as well as teach psycho-educational material as needed. I have always loved helping people and am naturally curious about people in general. This curiosity helps my clients figure out why they are the way they are and identify what they want to change. My greatest satisfaction is when clients feel relief, overcome difficult situations or trauma, and notice improvements in their lives. During the first session, I gather information for intake and assist the client in developing a treatment plan. I often assign homework to be completed between sessions. The following week, we discuss any progress made or obstacles encountered.
