Getting to know Sarah Azoulay

I work on a self-pay basis and do not accept insurance, including Kaiser. I’m happy to provide a superbill for possible out-of-network reimbursement. If self-pay feels like a good fit, you’re welcome to book an appointment directly. The provider is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #160676. I help clients move through anxiety, relationship challenges, perfectionism, self-doubt, codependency and burnout. My approach is psychodynamic and attachment-based, grounded in the belief that lasting change begins with deep understanding. Together, we approach your patterns with curiosity rather than self-judgment—because harsh inner criticism often keeps us stuck. I offer a warm, collaborative space where you’re not alone in untangling the past and building a more self-trusting, grounded way forward.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Many people come to therapy feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns they can’t seem to break. You might find yourself repeating the same relationship dynamics, struggling with perfectionism or self-doubt, or feeling disconnected from who you want to be. Most of us were never taught how to build secure relationships, feel safe in our emotions, or trust our own inner voice — and that’s where our work together begins. My approach is psychodynamic, attachment-based, and deeply relational. I believe meaningful change happens when we understand what’s going on beneath the surface — the fears, defenses, longings, and protective patterns that quietly shape your life. In our sessions, we approach these parts of you with curiosity rather than criticism, creating more space for healing, clarity, and self-trust. I offer a warm, collaborative environment where you can say the things you’ve never had permission to say out loud. You lead the way; I walk beside you, helping you navigate the bumps of your past and present with compassion and steadiness. I work with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, relationship challenges, identity exploration, codependency, career or academic burnout, and the desire for a more meaningful, grounded, self-led life. I also specialize in working with “zillennials” — those in the messy, transitional space between Gen Z and millennials — who are trying to make sense of themselves in a world that moves fast and asks a lot. I draw from psychodynamic therapy, compassion-focused work, mindfulness, and attachment theory, tailoring everything to your needs and pace. Beginning therapy takes courage, and my intention is to offer a space where you feel supported, seen, and able to grow in a way that feels authentic to you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I work on a self-pay basis and do not accept insurance, including Kaiser. I’m happy to provide a superbill for possible out-of-network reimbursement. If self-pay feels like a good fit, you’re welcome to book an appointment directly. We’ll begin with a brief phone consultation where you’re welcome to ask me any and all questions - about me, my approach, or what therapy with me might look like. This conversation also helps me get a clearer sense of what you’re navigating and how I may be able to support you. If it feels like a comfortable fit, we’ll move forward and schedule our first session together. The first few sessions of therapy, whether it’s your first time or not, often feel like a gentle catch-up. There’s no rush. We’ll take things at a pace that feels right for you, and I want you to know that we’re steering the ship together as we explore what feels most important and alive for you. I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, OCD, stress, and burnout. My areas of focus include working with Gen-Z and millennials, ADHD, codependency, attachment and relational challenges, difficulty with trust (in relationships or in yourself), career and academic concerns, and professional burnout. I’m especially drawn to working with people who are not only seeking relief from symptoms, but who want to cultivate more joy, authenticity, and self-acceptance in their lives.

Sarah is thoughtful and empathetic, and created a very safe space for me to be able to be honest and not feel judged.

Sarah is so warm, you can tell she really cares about you when you talk to her. She makes me feel so seen and heard during our sessions together. Sarah helped me challenge my negative thoughts and really helped me explore and understand why I'm such a perfectionist. Thank you Sarah! Could not recommend her enough!!
Sarah was extremely caring and professional. She has helped me work through a number of issues. I cannot recommend her highly enough.
I was experiencing a lot of burn out from work and sought out therapy to learn how to develop healthier coping mechanisms for anxiety and also to process unresolved trauma from my childhood. I knew it was interfering with not just my work but into my daily life as well. I am so thankful that fate had it that I meet Sarah. She creates an environment that is free of judgment and full of kindness and empathy. It feels like she is working with me as opposed to working on me... if that makes sense. I can confidently say that I have discovered many things about myself that had just laid dormant... and I use them in my life to improve my relationships and attitude towards work. Although I still have a long way to go, I am glad that Sarah is by my side and helping me grow into the future and process my past in a safe environment.
My visit with Sarah was more than I could ask for. Right off the bat, Sarah gives off a warmth that made me feel comfortable enough to share very personal and sensitive information. Every step of the way I felt heard and not judged and felt a great sense of someone who understands me. Without even realizing, while telling my story I started to cry which has never happened to me before. The experience I got with Sarah is something that will stick with me for a very long time. 10/10
